Because of the variety of styles we offer, it’s helpful to have some information on how our classes differ from one another, and what you can expect in each. Each instructor brings something fresh and unique, so in addition to trying out new classes, be sure to experience a range of instructor’s as well.

Hip-hop

Hip-hop refers to street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. Styles include breaking, locking, popping, and more. Classes generally start with a warm-up then work on a combination which chains movement in a longer sequence. Hip-hop uses smaller isolated movements and possibly a freestyle” (improvisational) component.

Ballet

Ballet is a technical form of dance with its own vocabulary based on French terminology and follows specific rules about the positions of the arms, feet, and body. A typical ballet class will start with barre exercises like pliés, tendus, and rond de jambes and ends with center and across the floor work to incorporate barre exercises into longer sequences.

Jazz

Jazz classes explore traditional, Broadway, funky or contemporary styles in a fun, energetic atmosphere. Class begins with a warm-up which focuses on technique, coordination, and flexibility. Warm-up is followed by either progressions across the floor or straight to a combination which chains movement in a longer sequence. Jazz usus full body movements that incorporate turns and leaps.

Stretch and Strength

Stretch and Strength is an intense session of basic stretches and strengthening that targets many areas of the body. Stretching involves an integrated partner-stretching program created by Keri LaGrand. Strengthening involves isometrics to target specific muscles and cardio exercises. This class is a great workout and a fun way to stay in great shape! The Stretch and Strength class is for anyone, whether you are dancer wanting a hard workout or just someone who wants a challenge.

Progressions

Progressions focus on the basics of jazz including turns, turns sequences, leaps, jumps. Class starts with a warm-up, then starts working on a progression of dance technique traveling across the floor.

Lyrical/Contemporary

Lyrical/Contemporary is a style of jazz that concentrates on technical fluidity and personal display of emotions and feelings. Dancers are given the opportunity to explore the lyrics and incorporate them into movement thus expressing their own individuality. Class begins with a warm-up which focuses on technique, coordination, and flexibility. Warm-up is followed by either progressions across the floor or straight to a combination which chains movement in a longer sequence.

Yoga

Yoga is a practical, methodical, and systematic discipline based on a harmonizing system of development for the body, mind, and spirit. Yoga practices include posture, breathing, visualizations, and many forms of meditation.
